Roger's Dream by Zara

One misty day Roger thought and thought about his job. He hated it. He had to turn the paper machine on and off until all the paper was made. Then he heard his wife, Nancy, call out dutifully, “Dinner’s ready.” By the way, Nancy was his wife, although sometimes he treated her as a maid. Roger got off the couch and walked slowly so Nancy came out of the dining room and yelled, “I said it’s time for dinner Roger. Can you hear me?”
“Yes,” groaned Roger. While he was eating he thought about his biggest dream which was owning his very own hot air balloon. He would call it the Ali Roger.

The next day Roger got out of his bed and groaned, but then he realized his work had started an hour ago so he raced to work as fast as he could. When Roger got to work, NOBODY WAS THERE! Wait, it was Sunday. Roger felt like he was going crazy. First he thought he was an hour late for work and then he realized it was Sunday.

On the way home Roger turned on the radio and he heard someone say, “Just tell us in three words why you like our radio station and you could win a prize of your choice.” Roger could not believe it! He had always listened to that radio station. It was a miracle. It was fascinating. It was fantastic. It was amazing.

The next day Roger thought and thought about what he was going to say. He had loads of ideas but he couldn’t get it into three words. That was impossible. Then an idea out of absolutely nowhere appeared in his head. The ideas for the radio station where inspiring, featful and fantastic.

On Roger’s way to work he called the radio station and told them his idea and they were judging right on 2 o’clock. It was amazing. At work he called his cousin Mandy and Mandy’s husband John and Mandy’s brothers Mark and Paul and he told them to come to his house immediately. They sounded a bit shocked and quiet but he thought they were okay.

Then the time came to judge all of the entries and Roger turned on the radio and he heard a drum roll. Roger stiffened and clutched the radio as tight as a bear and heard them announce that HE WAS THE WINNER. Roger fainted, but he was okay.

When Roger got home he saw Nancy cooking dinner and all the others watching telly so Roger turned the old telly off and told them that he had won. They all congratulated him. He felt like it was a dream but it wasn’t. Then Roger got a phone call to tell him to come to Allyson Road on Writeon Avenue. So he did and his dream came true but he was extremely surprised that it was on the beach and that Nancy drove all the others in the bus. When they all got out and saw the hot air balloon all ready to fly, Paul and Roger got in it and started to fly. It was a miracle, but it was true.

Mission Air Travel by Joshua

Joshua's story is so imaginative and cleverly written. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Mission Air Travel

I felt great, I had just won a million dollars in a lotto!!! What I was going to use it on was uncertain but I was sure it was going to change my life. But when I opened my bedroom door something was wrong, there was a little letter on my bed. It didn’t say who it was from, or where it came from. It just said ‘open with caution’ so I did. It was a good thing too because at that moment a little glass shade fell out. But it was no ordinary shade, it had writing on it. It said ‘Greetings I am Professor Morrison.  My job is at a laboratory. We have lots of cool gadgets that are up for sale. We wondered if you would like to drop in and see if you wanted anything. The location is George Avenue, Brodie, America.’
I looked up as soon as I read the letter ‘s’ for sale. I was totally in it. I told my mum and she agreed, so we set off to find the laboratory.

As soon as Mum parked the car a tiny tin was thrown in the car by an electronic hand. When the tin landed though, green smoke filled the car. Mum tried to open the windows and drive away, but there was a paperclip in the window button and she couldn’t drive away because a knife on the road popped her tyres. A couple of seconds later Mum and I fainted. When I awoke I found my hands and legs were cuffed. Mum was nowhere to be seen.
Just then a strange laugh filled the room, ‘Haha, hello there, Jack. I am Professor Morrison. I see you accepted our invitation to come to our little laboratory.’
‘You know my name?’
‘Of course I do.’
‘Where have you taken Mum?’ I shouted.
‘Your mum has forgotten everything,’ laughed the evil professor.
‘But why did you bring me here I ask!’
‘Your money of course. We don’t have enough to buy the secret ingredient for our new gadget.’
I looked around, there seemed to be no gadget here.
‘Where is it?’ I said.
‘I thought you’d never ask, laughed the madman as he pressed a button. A large gasp of wind filled my mouth as a huge balloon slowly came into view.
‘Meet the air balloon. The first air traveller.’
I was so shocked that I nearly missed an escape route- a robotic rat. I got its attention when Prof. Morrison wasn’t looking. It chewed through the cuffs At last I was free!!! I snuck around the strange machines, treading ever so lightly, towards to cackling scientist. Then suddenly, I pounced, pushing the screaming professor against a computer. Just then the police arrived and said, ’We’ve got you now, Professor.’

Professor Morrison was arrested. They fired every scientist so that business collapsed. And as for me, I got to own the balloon by buying the secret ingredient the professor was forced to tell me! Since I live near the beach I love to fly over the ocean.

But the best memory is when my brother and Dad flew it over Big Rock Beach and everyone was happy. And that my friends, is something money cannot buy.

The Mystery of the Missing Balloon by Emily

A group of our very talented writers spent several writing sessions preparing a piece for the Write On competition. Over the next week or so, I will be sharing their very creative work with you.

The first piece is by Emily. I really lover her idea of travelling in time through a portal!

The Mystery of the Missing Balloon

“Father, I’m home from school,” said the little boy in Year 3.
“I really don’t want to hear about you now Luke,” said Mr Robinson. “Can’t you see I’m busy.”
“But I discovered something really cool.” Luke was so angry he pinched his father’s arm. “Ow!!” Mrs Robinson came running in, and his  little sister Penelope. “Into your room, NOW!!’ cried Mrs Robinson.

‘When Luke went to his room he phoned Carl, his best friend. “You there Carl?” Luke whispered.
“Yeah.”
“Let’s sneak out.”
“Ah no and why?”
“Because I found this lost treasure. I think it’s a hot air balloon,” whispered Luke in a strange voice.
“Okay. I change my mind.”
“Okay then. I will meet you at school…. And I almost forgot. I’ve got a map,” replied Luke.

When Luke arrived at school at 9pm, Carl was there and he had a whole tub of food. “Okay. You ready Carl? I think you go into our classroom and write on the whiteboard,” Luke said excitedly. “But…”
“What?” asked Carl nervously. “ We need to write I believe I can fly,” said Luke surprised.
“Then walk into the whiteboard,” moaned Luke. “When are we there,” said Luke. “Oh look, that was the next thing,” said Luke.
“You sure about this Luke?” said Carl. He said that he was very nervous. So they jumped into a portal and went into a magical land. They found out that they grew older.

“Is this what we look like when we are older?” asked Luke.
“I think so,” answered Carl. Suddenly there was a phone call. It was Penelope. She said, “Where are you? Daddy, Mummy and I want you NOW!”
“I heard her about to cry,” Luke said really scared to Carl.
Luke said, “Just hang up on her.” He was scared.

It was two hours later, “Look! Look! I found it.” Luke was so happy he kicked the ground.
“Ow. That stings,” Luke said.
“Let’s go Luke. Let’s go. Come on,” Carl moaned.

Luke’s family found out so they did what Luke did. Luke was already up in the air. “Luke my darling. Are you okay?” Mrs Robinson asked. But they were up in the air.
“Mum, Dad and Penelope go find an angry dog … Look, just don’t worry about it.”
“I’m staying!” Penelope yelled.
“No you’re not!”
On the t count I’m Luke Robinson. Then they all left feeling angry, but Luke’s father stayed. “Luke, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude. It’s just I was going to create a blimp.”
“A blimp Dad really,” Luke said.

So they helped Luke down and Carl. “I’m glad I’ve got a father like you because….” Luke was speechless. “You know what Dad.” Luke just ran off and yelled, “CATCH ME IF YOU CAN!”
“Oh no. You didn’t just say that. Well I’m just going to catch you.”

So they ran back to the portal but Mum and Penelope were still there, “There’s no way to get out,” Mum said terrified.
“But I’m older so I can just kick it open,” Luke said unimpressed. So they travelled back in the car and went home.
Luke said, “I have learnt my lesson to never ever run away.”
