HOMEWORK TERM 4
Homework this term will look quite different to the way it has been in previous terms. This term you will have weekly tasks and a project-like task.
THE WEEKLY TASKS:
1.      Learn and practise all of the times tables. This will be checked in class throughout the term.
2.      Complete any assigned Mathletics tasks.
3.      Complete assigned Study Ladder tasks (log in details will come in a separate note)
THE PROJECT – PREPARE A SPEECH TO PRESENT IN CLASS
Choose one of the following topics to research and prepare a 2 -3 minute speech to present to the class. Presentations will take place in the week beginning Monday, 2 November, 2015 (Week 5).
The topics:
1.      Roald Dahl.
Tell us a little about his life and how his experiences have impacted upon his writing.
Does he have certain types of characters that he consistently uses? Why do you think he does this?
Who is his audience? How does he engage them?
2.      Plants
Explain why flowering plants are important. Why do we need them?
What are the parts of a flowering plant? Use a diagram to help you explain.
What are the parts of a flower? Use a diagram to help you explain.
What is the life cycle of a flower?
3.      British Colonisation
The First Fleet started arriving in Sydney on 18 January, 1788 finally landing in Sydney Cove on 26 January. The convicts set about building and developing Sydney. Captain James Cook had claimed the land of “New South Wales” on behalf of Great Britain.
What do the words “terra nullius” mean?
What are the consequences of British Colonisation? Talk about the positive and the negative effects of the arrival of Captain James Cook, Captain Arthur Philip and the First and Second Fleets.
